A Creative Summer at The Howard Centre

Happy Camps Funded by Herts Sport Partnership

This summer, The Craft Room took our holiday camp to The Howard Centre in Welwyn Garden City, giving our young people the chance to enjoy a fun-filled day of creativity, food, sport, and plenty of laughter.

Our craft space was in full swing as the children got stuck into pearl painting, creating some beautiful and completely individual pieces to take home. It was lovely to see the children getting creative, trying something new and proudly showing off their finished work.

We also explored needle felting in embroidery hoops, giving the children another hands-on creative activity to enjoy. They produced unique designs that can be proudly displayed at home, adding a lovely sense of achievement and a lasting reminder of their creativity.

We also made use of the fantastic Ping Pong Parlour, a pop-up table tennis initiative from Table Tennis England. The children had the opportunity to get active, have a go at table tennis and enjoy some friendly competition — although there may have been a few very competitive moments along the way!

Lunchtime was another highlight, with a lovely lunch kindly catered for by Muffin Break. The children enjoyed sitting together in the Muffin Break seating area, giving everyone a chance to relax, enjoy their food and have a chat before heading back to the activities.

We were also delighted to welcome Orla Moore from HSP, who came along to see what we were doing and meet the young people. We were then very lucky to receive a VIP visit from Amanda Mayes, who took the time to visit our camp and see the work taking place at The Howard Centre.

It was a brilliant opportunity for us to bring our holiday programme into Welwyn Garden City and show what The Craft Room can offer to older children and young people. From creative activities and physical activity to a nutritious lunch and opportunities to meet people within the community, it was a really positive experience for everyone involved.
