What started as a simple idea has quickly grown into a lovely little community hub within The Howard Centre. Our Book & Puzzle Swap has become a wonderful success, with local people regularly stopping by to browse, donate, swap, and chat about their latest reads.
The swap is open to everyone and includes books for all ages — from toddler storybooks and children’s favourites, right through to young adult fiction, cookbooks, thrillers, biographies, and large-print books for older readers. We’ve loved seeing families explore the shelves together, with children excitedly choosing a “new” book to take home while parents browse for themselves too.
Alongside the books, we also introduced a puzzle swap, which has proven just as popular. Community members have been bringing in jigsaw puzzles they’ve completed and exchanging them for something new to enjoy at home. It’s been a great way to encourage sharing, reduce waste, and give people an affordable way to enjoy hobbies and entertainment.
More than anything, the swap has become about community connection. People often stop for a chat, recommend books to one another, or return each week to see what new titles have appeared on the shelves. It’s a small project that has made a big difference, creating another welcoming and accessible space within The Howard Centre.
At The Craft Room, we believe creativity, stories, and shared spaces can bring people together, and the success of the Book & Puzzle Swap has shown just how much our community values simple, meaningful initiatives like this.
A huge thank you to everyone who has donated books and puzzles, helped keep the shelves stocked, and supported the project so far. We’re excited to continue growing it and seeing even more people enjoy it in the months ahead 📚🧩💛
